Bainbridge Colby is making a very interesting comment here. Not very many people associate loyalty to the country with loyalty to education. Colby is trying to make a point that a loyal American must have a strong loyalty to the education system. A big concept of loyalty is remaining faithful and committed whether things are up on cloud nine or down in the dumps. In recent years, America’s education system has been improving but only after struggling. Other nations have surpassed the U.S. in areas of the international education competition. Colby is trying to reinforce the idea that education is an important aspect of our country’s future success. Therefore, citizens must be committed to changing the system for the better and instilling within each generation the importance of learning in order to successfully keep up with other countries.
I completely agree with Colby’s statement. As an education major, I believe it’s crucial that education maintains its status as a high priority in the country. If each successive generation doesn’t value learning and strive to understand more, then America will not be as successful as it has been in past years. To be a world power in this day and age, education is critical. In order for America to succeed, the education system must be high quality. The American people must be loyal to it, making it a high priority and supporting its staff. So yes, an aspect of Americanism is being completely loyal to teachers and what they’re doing for our children.
